Donald R Mackenzie lived, most of his life in the village of Aridbhruaich.
Like others in the island, he was captured at St Valery by the German Army, led by General Major Rommel, on the 12th June 1940, when the 51st Highland Division was fighting a doomed rear guard action to allow the larger part of the British Army to evacuate from Dunkirk.
From that time, for the remainder of the Second World War, he was a prisoner of war and the major part of this account tells pf his experiences in the different Prisoner Of War camps.
He wrote this account of his life in 1991, primarily for his own family, and was published in 'Dioghlum'; the magazine of Kinloch Historical Society. It was serialised in seventeen parts between June 1992 and March 1997 in issues 1 to 17 of the magazine.
